Joining
Have you ever attended a concert, listened to a recording or sat at home watching one of those programmes on TV featuring choirs and wished you could be part of something like that?

Are you looking for a fun, enjoyable pastime with music, social events and camaraderie? Then the Dorset Police Male Voice Choir could be for you.

New members are always very welcome and please don’t be put off if you’ve never sung before or you’re not sure if you are good enough.

Many people join us who have no experience of singing in public. You don’t need to be able to sight-read music either.
Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and to be able to sing in tune is more important and if you have this you are half way there.
What sort of music do you sing?
We sing a wide range of songs from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, love songs, traditional Welsh music and well known classical music.

Do I need to be a Police Officer to join?
It is not necessary to be a member of the Police. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and interests.
Membership is open to all-comers and the ability to read music, although an advantage, isn’t necessary either.
All that is needed is a pleasant voice, a love of singing and the motivation and willingness to learn, attend rehearsals and be part of an enthusiastic, sociable and close knit team.
What are the different voice parts?
The choir is split into four sections:

-
First Tenor
-
Second Tenor
-
Baritone
-
Second Bass
They range respectively from highest to lowest voices. If you don’t know where your voice fits our Musical Director, Jane will help and advise.
How soon will I be able to sing in concert ?
An experienced choir member will be nominated to act as your mentor during your early days with the choir.

The Mentor, in consultation with the Musical Director will agree with you when you feel ready and able to contribute to singing in concert, acknowledging the ultimate objective of singing in public without copies of words or music.
